Dust ruffle.
So that your bed will look great as soon as you put it up, we provide a dust ruffle with your bed. It is off white in color unless you wish to supply us with fabric to make it out of. It has a pocket at the top like a cafe curtain. It slides onto 3/8" diameter aluminum rods which hang on cup hooks from the bottom of the foot and side rails.
This method allows you to launder one of the three pieces without moving your mattress at all. Ironing is easy too since there are no pleats and the pieces are smaller.

Shipped disassembled. Our beds are shipped totally disassembled so that they may be gotten into any upstairs bedroom regardless of the stair case. Eight bolts bolt the four posts to the four rails. Every thing is numbered and has been assembled prior to being finished. The headboard floats in mortises in the head posts.

Bedding height. The total thickness of different mattress and box spring sets sometimes vary as much as 8" in total thickness. To compensate for this variation we put the top of the mattress at 30" high and provide "L"shaped irons for the box spring to sit on that are within 2"of the appropriate vertical height.

If the total thickness of your mattress and box spring is

14" to 16" thick...request that we provide bed irons with a 4" drop
16" to 18" thick...request that we provide bed irons with a 6" drop
18" to 20" thick...request that we provide bed irons with an 8" drop
20" to 22" thick...request that we provide bed irons with a 10" drop

If you buy a mattress set that is a different thickness at some time in the future or simply wish to change the height of the top of your mattress, we are happy to swap irons with you. When I was growing up, the hardware store did the same thing with ice skates. Can't remember if there was a charge for the skates but there is none from us.

Ordering procedure.

1. Determine generally what you want to buy.

2. Mail a $200 deposit check to us. As we say, this seperates the serious from the curious. It also puts you on our build schedule.

3. We will mail you a written confirmation of your deposit and an invoice distilling to writing the decisions made thus far.

4. Each item we build has lists of "choices" from which a selection must be made. "Options" are optional.

5. Once you have paid your deposit, we are happy to mail you finish samples of your choosing for consideration in your light.

6. Payment in full including shipping and Maine state sales tax if applicable, must be paid by personal check prior to your build date.

7. We will build, ship, arrange and pay the shipper on your behalf, and refund any overpayment.

Antiquing. The combination of steps in the furniture finishing process that have as their sole objective to make the furniture look older than it really is. How much older is determined by the amount of antiquing applied. We offer antiquing in light, medium and heavy quantities.
The lowest level of antiquing is "light", not "none". There are three reasons for this.

First, try as we might to make perfect furniture with no blemishes, we can't. So, rather than promise you something that we can't do, we offer you the best that we can do.

Second, scratches and dings will happen to your furniture as you use it. if we put the first few on, as others occur, there is less anxiety which is good for you and your visitors.

Third, we think it looks more appropriate. It's like a person over forty-five having crows feet around their eyes.

Shipping options. Select the level of service you desire that is available for each and all the pieces in your order.

If you select a level of service that requires packing, we are happy to pack it for you for 5% of the purchase price. The cost of packing and shipping on common carrier is about the same as white glove blanket wrapped.

After shipping is complete, we will pay the shipping company on your behalf, charge that exact amount against your prepayment, and send you a refund check of any overpayment.

Common carrier- Furniture will be delivered to the curb in front of your home or office. Must be packed in boxes and/or crates.

Delivery in company van in Maine- Furniture set up in your room ready to use. No packing required.

King size.
This is a bed size that is 16" to 18" wider than a queen size. For some reason, king size mattress sets vary in size from the east coast to the west coast. Please measure your set and give us the dimensions.
To provide enough support across the bed, we provide what we call a center support rail. The dust ruffle covers it up so it is not seen.
